Chapter 10

Andy came in with a big smile as he kissed Li Ann on the cheek. She felt weird already being so open with Andy, hence she only knew him for two days. She felt uncomfortable of course, but she didn’t want to make Andy feel that he’d done something wrong by kissing her already.

He held in his hand a pink rose and handed it to her. Li Ann smiled as she led him into the living room.

“So, uh, where’s your brother?” Andy asked as he sat down and made himself comfortable.

“He’s working late,” Li Ann replied.

“What does he do?” Andy asked.

“He’s a doctor,” Li Ann replied with a hint of proudness in her brother.

“I see...” Andy mumbled.

“Well, would you like to have dinner now?” Li Ann asked as she sat down on the right angle of the couch next to Andy.

“Hmm, how about dessert first?” Andy said as he pulled her from her seat and down next to him. Li Ann was taken back by surprise as she tried to scoot out.

Andy wrapped his arms around her waist and pushed himself up against her for a kiss. Li Ann’s hands pressed upon his chest to move him back.

“Uh, Andy, I think we should just go eat. I’m hungry,” Li Ann said hinting to Andy that she didn’t want to do anything besides have dinner.

Andy smiled as he nodded and released her. Li Ann stood up and turned around. She sighed with relief as she walked towards the kitchen.

How would she tell Andy she liked him a lot, but she wanted to take everything slow. Mike sat still in the dining room as he waited for her.

Li Ann walked in and straight into the kitchen. Andy followed and stopped when he reached the dining room. Mike looked up to find Andy standing there, looking at the dining table that had already been set with wine and water.

Andy smirked as he walked over to the seat where he predicted that Li Ann would be sitting in. Mike paid more attention once he saw what Andy was going to do. Andy looked back and forth across the room to make sure Li Ann would be popping in any time.

He took out of his pockets a small wrapper, and quickly slipped a drug into Li Ann’s wine glass.

“What the...” Mike mumbled looking at Andy in disbelief. Andy stuck the wrapper back into his pocket just right before Li Ann came out of the door to the kitchen.

She held in her hands two plate of pasta.

“Hey, it’s done, let’s eat,” Li Ann said cheerfully as she set the plates down. Andy took a seat in the opposite end of the long dining table.

Li Ann took her seat and started unfolding her napkin.

“Hey Li Ann,” Mike said catching her attention.
She didn’t look over to him but she told him by her actions that she was listening.

“Whatever you do, don’t drink the wine,” Mike warned. Li Ann glanced up with a questioning look. She suddenly shook off that feeling and turned her attention towards Andy.

“Li Ann! Listen to me, don’t drink it,” Mike warned again, this time a bit louder.

“Andy, will you excuse me for a minute,” Li Ann said as she got up and walked into the kitchen. Mike got up and followed her.

“Mike, what are you doing?” Li Ann asked a bit pissed off when she was in the kitchen alone with Mike.

“Look, don’t drink the wine alright. I saw Andy slip in a drug when you were in here,” Mike explained with his hands in his pockets.

“Oh really,” Li Ann shot him a sarcastic glare.

“I’m telling the truth. Why would I lie?” Mike sighed as he rolled his head around in a tired way.

“Why would he do that?” Li Ann questioned looking at Mike suspiciously.

“Like I’ve said before, this guy can’t be trusted. Your brother’s not home you know...”This was making a bit of sense to Li Ann. She looked up at Mike again and saw that he was trying to be as sincere as he can.

She sighed. “Fine,” Li Ann mumbled as she walked out of the kitchen.

Li Ann sat down and smiled when Andy looked up at her. He hadn’t even touched his food. Andy picked up his wine glass and made a toast to her.

Li Ann looked around without moving her head to look for Mike, but he was nowhere in sight. She didn’t want to believe him, but her conscience somehow betrayed her. She picked up her water glass instead of the wine and made her toast to Andy.

She drank it while looking at Andy. His face was quiet surprised that she didn’t drink the wine.

“You look really beautiful tonight,” Andy complimented as he finally took his fork to eat the pasta in his plate.

“Oh, thanks,” Li Ann replied still unsure of Andy and Mike. Certainly Mike could be lying. Just because Mike didn’t like Andy, he shouldn’t be making up lies.

She didn’t believe Mike, but she didn’t drink the wine either. An hour later, after conversing and eating, Li Ann got up to clean the table. Andy looked at her questioningly when he saw that she didn’t even touch her wine glass.

Had she seen him? If so, she wouldn’t act so casual around him. After Li Ann had cleaned up, she came back out and seemed to be in a hurry, rushing Andy to leave. He couldn’t make sense of what she was trying to do, but he loved it.

Andy wouldn’t budge as he sat down in the living room again. Li Ann sat down across from him to talk, but she kept glancing at her watch. Andy sensed that she was waiting for her brother to come home, and he loved it when she looked so nervous around him.

He moved in closer to her.

“Let me show you a trick,” Andy said as he took out a coin. He flashed the coin in front of her eyes, then placed it in his palms and placed it in front of her eyes.

He made sure she was staring into his eyes and not the coin, but Li Ann refused and stared at the coin instead. Strange, Andy thought. She wasn’t like other girls. She seemed to be more interested in the trick rather than him.

He rolled up his fingers into a fist with the coin inside and suddenly flipped it back open again, but the coin was gone. Li Ann smiled. Andy looked at her soft cheeks, down to her pink lips. He wanted to kiss her.

Instead of completing the trick, he pulled her neck with his other hand in for a kiss. Before kissing her, Li Ann disappointed him by pushing him back.

“Where’s the coin?” she asked sweetly.

“Here,” Andy said as he pulled his hand out of her hair and showed her the coin. Li Ann’s eyes grew as she smiled and took the coin in her hands.

Andy sat back to let her look at the coin. It was the same coin of course, but his charm didn’t win her again this time. He was disappointed.

“Well, it’s late Andy. You should get going,” Li Ann said as she stood up.

He faked a smile on as he got up and reached for his jacket. She walked him outside and stopped when they were outside the front door. She looked down at her feet nervously as Andy said his goodbye.

He leaned in for a kiss, making Li Ann blush again. She looked to her side and saw Dongwan walking out of his car. She panicked and turned her head, making Andy kiss her cheek.

“Goodnight,” she said to Andy quickly, then turned to her brother.
Dongwan looked up and waved at Andy. Andy nodded and said goodbye once more to Li Ann.

Andy turned around and walked towards his car. Dongwan’s jacket was hung around his arm as he searched for his key. Li Ann stood by the door with her hands clasped together as she waited for Dongwan.

“Did I interrupt?” Dongwan asked teasing Li Ann. She punched him in the arms and started into the house first. Dongwan laughed as he closed the door.

Andy sat in his car and muttered a curse. He picked up his cell phone and called up a number.

“Hello? Soo Jin? How are you baby? Can I come over?” Andy asked in a charming voice over the phone. He smiled as he nodded and closed his phone. He looked back at the door, then smirked and drove off.

“How was your day?” Li Ann asked before walking up to her room.

“It was good. Who’s that guy?” Dongwan asked putting his jacket away into the closet.

“His name is Andy Lee.”

“Your boyfriend?” Dongwan raised his eyebrows.

“I don’t know...” Li Ann replied unsure of herself.

“It’s a simple question, yes or no,” Mike said from across the room. He was leaning up on the wall with one foot pressed upon it.

“Shut up you,” Li Ann glared at Mike.

“What?” Dongwan asked as he looked up from untying his shoes.

“Oh, not you oppa,” Li Ann replied apologetically as she glared at Mike again. Mike smiled mischievously with triumph.

“Goodnight oppa,” Li Ann said as she jumped up the stairs to her room. She closed the door and slumped down on her bed smiling to herself because of Andy.

“Don’t dream of him. He’s going to break your heart,” Mike said from across her room. She sat up and was surprised that he was there with out her noticing it.

“Mind your own business,” Li Ann rolled her eyes and laid down on her bed again. Mike walked over to the other side of the bed and sat down besides it. Li Ann turned and sat down on the other side.

“You know that trick Andy tried to pull on you?” Li Ann looked up when she heard what he’d said. Her eyes seized up on him as if he was spying on them. She tilted her chin up and rose to put her elbows on the bed.

She placed her head in her hands by the chin and stared at Mike. Mike did the same as he placed his chin in his palms and stared at her back. He suddenly reached into his pocket and took out a shiny gold coin.

“It was wrong, this is how you do it,” Mike said calmly as he flipped the coin in front of her face allowing her to look at it. She was looking into his eyes rather than the coin.

She was somehow being pulled into Mike’s stare. He moved in closer to her so that they were only inches apart. He placed another hand over the coin and suddenly when he removed his top hand, the coin was missing.

Li Ann’s eyes grew wider as she smiled at Mike’s trick. A smile crept upon his lips as he showed her both hands without a coin.

He reached over to her left ear, then smoothed down his fingers to her jaw, and over to her chin, pulling out a coin under her chin. She looked down at his hand where the coin was and smiled in amusement.

He placed the coin back into his pockets, then stood up from her bed.

“Goodnight Li Ann,” Mike smiled down at her.

“That was a nice trick Mike, goodnight,” Li Ann smiled back as she took a deep breath and got up from her backstabbing position.

Mike nodded as he went right through her front door.

Li Ann smiled slowly at the door Mike had went through, then walked up and into her restroom.
